You're Already Leading - So Act Like It! | Elizabeth Evett
Whether you hold the title or not, you are influencing the room.
Presented by Elizabeth Evett, founder of Speaking Emotions, Licensed Mental Health Counselor.
We talk nonstop about broken systems, difficult bosses, and cultures that need to change, and many of them absolutely do! Systems matter. Leadership structures matter. And so does the way you choose to show up inside them.
After more than a decade as a counselor working with leaders, teams, and families, I’ve seen this truth; we often underestimate our influence. When things feel unfair or overwhelming, we deflect, shut down, or look outward for someone to blame. And yes, life hands us some real shit! Some of it breaks us. This talk doesn’t deny that. It asks a harder question: Who are you choosing to be in the middle of it?
Whether you hold the title or not, you are influencing the room. You’re either the thermostat or the thermometer.
Leadership is messy and emotional. If we want healthier businesses and stronger communities, ownership can’t just live at the top—it has to live in each of us.
About Liz Evett
Liz is the founder of Speaking Emotions and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over a decade of experience supporting individuals, families, and leaders through real-life pressure, conflict, and growth. Her work focuses on emotional regulation and personal responsibility because culture isn’t shaped by policy alone, it’s shaped by how people show up every day.
Through counseling, consulting, and speaking, Liz challenges the idea that leadership belongs only to those with titles. She helps people recognize their influence, regulate their emotions, and understand the ripple effect their presence has on teams, workplaces, and communities.
A mom of two and wife to a Navy Veteran, Liz’s perspective is grounded in lived experience. She speaks honestly about resilience, ownership, and what it takes to lead well when things feel messy and human.
